Vipkid review in 2021 this tutorial will show you hiring process, mock class, demo lesson, and new pay structure.
Teaching is one of my favorite methods of making money online because you provide a valuable service to others, often changing lives in the process. It’s one of the best ways, in my opinion, to use the internet to make money.
With this website, I about to tell you. It’s providing options for teachers to become independent contractors and entrepreneurs—the best of both worlds.
In today’s article, we going to talk about VIPKID review in 2021; by the end of this, you will know how this website works? How much they pay you? And important of all is it really worth your time or not we about to find out so sit back relax and drink some coffee but first thing first.
What is VIPKID?
VIPKid is an online ESL teaching platform that provides a virtual classroom setting for teachers and students in China; specifical, children between the ages of 4-12.
The entire teaching process happens through screens, so you can work from anywhere in the world whether that’s at home with your kids or on a beach in Thailand.
What are the requirements to become a VIPKID teacher?
The VIPKID requirements are strict compared to some other companies.
You must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher to get hired. They are strict about this requirement and will require verification of your degree later in the hiring process.
You must have at least 1 year of working with children. If you have experience coaching, mentoring, babysitting, teaching, or tutoring, that counts toward your year of experience.
You will need a computer and tablet with high-speed internet. This is obvious that you’ll need reliable internet for a job that takes place online, so this requirement probably doesn’t come as a surprise.
Your system must run on Windows 7 or above, or MAC OS 10.8x. It must also have Intel Core i3 or above, at least 4GB RAM, the latest Flash version, and you need a wired DSL internet connection – at least 20 Mbps. And a good headset and webcam.
You will need to have either TEFL certification or a professional teaching license. If you don’t have a TEFL certificate or teaching license, VIPKID will require that you take an in-house TEFL course while you complete your onboarding. This course is free and provided within the VIPKID platform.
This special VIPKID TEFL course won’t transfer to other teaching jobs, but it is enough for you to meet the VIPKID requirements and start teaching on their platform.
How do you apply for this job?
There are several steps to the VIPKid application process. First, you fill in the online application form.
After that, you’ll join them for a 30-minute session to showcase your teaching skills to a VIPKid recruiter, or you will record a demo lesson at your time of choosing and submit it for evaluation.
The curriculum is very structured so each VIPKid lesson focuses on their slides. Therefore, the company needs to see that you can teach their curriculum in the way they designed it—while still employing appropriate ESL and classroom techniques.
After the interview, they give you a bunch of videos on the VIPKid technology, standards, and curriculum. Then you’ll prepare for a full-length mock class with a teacher-mentor.

How to nail the mock class?
The hardest part about the mock lesson is timing if you can nail it. So, it is not ending too early or too late and figuring out how to extend a lesson for a student.
You should talk slow like you’re auditioning for Cartoon channel, Sesame Street, or Barney.
In a regular classroom, you have the luxury of over-explaining or reviewing things multiple times. However, online you have to be clear and precise from the start as you only have approximately 25 minutes per class.
After that, you’ll fill out your payment information and upload the required documents. Getting your documents verified can take a few days.
Do you need to sign the contract?
Yes, VIPKid asks you to commit to six months of work at a time.
At the end of six months, your contract may or may not be renewed depending on feedback from students and parents as well as the number of classes you taught.
If you sign the contract congratulation you are hired and VIPKid team will do your background check.
How much money can you make?
VIPKid pays between $7-$9 per 30 minutes class plus $2 per class if you hit a minimum of 45 classes each month and you are on time to all of them. As you can see this chart right here.
Teachers get paid via direct deposit, sometime between the 10th and 15th of the month. Once your 6-month contract is up, VipKid may consider you for a raise.
As for taxes, VipKid teachers are independent contractors and therefore responsible for their own taxes.
What is a VIPKID Teacher’s Schedule look Like?
This is the best part about VIPKID. You may teach as many or as few classes as you wish in a given week – you are in charge of your own schedule!
You simply open your teacher’s portal a week in advance and select which times you would like to be scheduled to teach.
Now if you live in North America region this can be tough because china has different time zone. You can check out the peak time hour right here.
Many teachers take on an early morning load that starts around 4:30 AM including weekends. If you can swing it, the best times are Friday and Saturday night from 9 PM to midnight EST.
They recommend teachers to be available for at least 7.5 hours a week. It’s possible you can take a few days off, even for an extended period, but you need to let VIPKid know at least two weeks in advance.
How do you prep for your classes?
You can open classes a few weeks in advance or a few days in advance.
Parents can see your availability schedule. Starting about 1-2 weeks in advance, parents can book your time slots for their child.
While you’ll often see the same students again and again (called regulars), you might also meet new students.
Once a time slot gets booked by a student, you can see the lesson you’ll be teaching. This means that you can look over the slides in advance so there are no surprises.
The night before a class, just make sure to review which lessons you have coming up and pull out any items need that can demonstrate.
Let me give you an example, let say you teach about the fruit that day. You might go to the kitchen and grab an apple or orange so you can use it during the lesson.
If you are teaching a younger student about colors, you’ll try to find a few different colored items that you can use.
Now let’s talk about pros vs cons
Pros:
- You can earn a living, while making a difference in someone’s life.
- They pay on time and accurately
- You can make your own schedule
- Students are respectful and well behaved
Cons:
- Once a class is scheduled you cannot miss it (3 strikes and you’re out)
- Cannot pick which students you teach
- Slow Start Up Process, it can take a while to get your application to approve.
- It’s not easy to get hired.
- Different Time Zones Means Early Working Hours
Now you might be wonder is this company legit or totally is a scam? I do little research for you let see what they say.
